Welcome to West Texas Psychiatry Brain Health Clinic

– New technology for testing your brain health.

– An affordable, 30-minute non-invasive test to measure your brain speed and power.

Real-time testing for brain health

Our brain health testing assesses mental function on a real-time basis and objectively looks at the quality (speed) and voltage (power) of our brain, reaction time, attention, visual screening ability and speed of processing.

New Technology for Testing Your Brain

  • Fast

  • Affordable

  • Non-invasive

  • Immediate results

  • West Texas Psychiatry Brain Health Clinic program promotes wellness for detection,                                                   prevention and healing

The Brain Health Testing Platform

In-office cognitive testing that incorporates brain scans to assess mental function and disease

states of a client’s brain in a matter of minutes.

Our testing objectively looks at the brain to determine:

  • Quality (speed)

  • Voltage (power)

  • Reaction time

  • Attention

  • Speed of processing

Areas of detection / concern:

  • Early detection of Dementia / Alzheimer’s disease

  • Objective measurements to help diagnose or rule out Attention Deficient Disorder (ADD)                                              or Attention Deficient Hyperactivity (ADHD)

  • Objective protocols for concussions and identification of brain trauma

  • Depression / Anxiety

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

  • Memory loss at any age

  • Brain damage causing difficulties in life

Traditional diagnosis procedures for Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)      may lead to over-diagnosis and are fraught with complications because the target behavioral symptoms are                      found in a variety of other disorders.

How does it work?

The new WAVi Testing Platform couples cognitive and brain-electrical activity information through EEG, evoked responses, and traditional performance screenings. This allows assessment of mental function on a real-time basis to provide immediate test results!

The Young Brain*

  • Brain not fully developed until age 25 in females and age 28 in males.

  • 80% of children who struggle with mental health/brain issues are unidentified and do not receive treatment.

  • For children, it takes on the average 11 years from the time of a symptom of mental health issue                                  until first treatment (depression, eating disorder, Personality Disorder (PD), sleep, ADD, ADHD, …).

  • 65% to 75% of jailed teens have a mental illness or brain injury.

  • 50% of children with mental health issues drop out of school.

  • Suicide 3rd leading cause of death in kids.

  • 35 fold increase in 20 years (1987 to 2007) of # of children on SSI for mental disability since approval of Prozac.

  • Kids need a healthy brain to be successful in life.

  • Early brain injuries (concussions, falls, car accidents ….), drug use, alcohol use, and poor nutrition are a                     disaster for young brain development.

Q: Is it a mental issue or a BRAIN HEALTH ISSUE?

  • 1 in 4 of adults struggle with mental health issues each year.

  • 51% of US population will have some type of mental disorder in their life; depression, anxiety, ADD,                bipolar, etc. will struggle with attention, focus, memory, sadness, anxiety, worry, flexibility, anger, impulsivity ….

  • Every day, 1,100 adults and children are added to the government disability rolls because they have                        become newly disabled by mental illness. (Damaged Brain)

  • “Psychopharmological drugs have greatly increased since 1954 AND the number of mentally disabled                           have skyrocketed.”

  • Prozac approved in 1987 and # of “mentally disabled” receiving SSI and SSDI rose to 3.97 million since then.

Early detection of dementia / Alzheimer’s disease.

Memory Loss at any age

  • Millions of Americans face cognition problems as early as in their 30’s.

  • AD Starts in the brain decades before there are ANY symptoms

  • Memory loss at any age should be a cause for concern just as any head trauma should be a cause for concern.

Facts about Dementia / Alzheimer’s Disease:

  1. A recent international survey identified Alzheimer’s as the second most feared disease behind cancer.

  2. Affects 50% of Persons by age 85.

  3. Alzheimer’s disease is expected to triple in the next 30 years.

  4. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.

  5. It is the only cause of death among the top 10 in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.

  6. A person with Alzheimer’s disease may live anywhere from two to 20 years after diagnosis.  Those years are spent in an increasingly dependent state that exacts a staggering emotional, physical, and economic toll on families.

  7. For the person diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at age 59, he or she likely started to have trouble in the                                        brain by the age of 30.

  8. The person diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in his early 70s, likely already had brain changes in his 40s.

  9. Losing your memory or developing brain fog in your 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, or even 80s is NOT normal.                                                          It is a sign of trouble.

What happens during the testing process?

During the test, a light weight headset will be placed on your head with sensors to measure responses.                              You can expect for your hair and head to get wet during the process, as sterile water is used with the sensors.

How long does testing take?

Testing time is generally 20 minutes. Add another 10 minutes for preparation. Results are available immediately after testing.

What happens after the test?

After completion of the scan, you will be shown the scan results and receive a copy of your scan.                                          A consultation will then be scheduled with our Certified Brain Fitness and Certified Brain Health Coach professional.

Who should be tested and why?

This Brain Health scan is beneficial for everyone. We recommend all ages have a scan to evaluate your Brain Health.      We also recommend a scan for all who participate or will participate in contact sports to establish a baseline of voltage for future comparison.

This is also valuable to have in the event of any auto accident or other damage to the brain.  Brain health testing can also be used to track the efficacy of treatments and to detect problems while they are still treatable including pre-symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.    Schedule your test today.     Call (432) 218-9920.
